Welcome Back!! My name is Heather Thomas and I will be your child's Math/Science teacher for 6th grade.  I am looking forward to a wonderful and fun year with your child.  Please make sure to email me at any time with any questions that may arise.  I do not give HW on Fridays, holidays, or breaks unless your child has not completed their classwork.  Please make sure you are checking their planner everyday as they should be writing all of their HW assignments in there, and I often use that to write notes to a parent sometimes if I need to. Looking forward to a great year!

 FYI:

1. Keep in mind that HW is graded most days and will count towards 20% of your child's grade.  With only 50 min. of class time per subject, there is not enough time to do much else other than teach a lesson and do some guided practice problems.  All other work is done on their own at home.  You can monitor, help, and check their HW to help your child maintain a better grade.

2. Please make sure you are checking their planner everyday as they should be writing all of their HW assignments in there, and I sometimes use that to write notes to a parent if I need to.

3. I will accept late work only if it is turned in in the same month it was originally due and half credit will be given for late work.

4. All tests need to be signed and 5 pts. will be given for the return of them. Those 5 pts. add up throughout the semester and if a child does not return signed tests they will eventually have a deduction of about 30 points total (depending on how many tests they took in the semester) which will affect their grade in the end.

5. Please check schoology on a weekly basis at the least.  This is my grade book.  This is your child's most current grade in the class and the percentage can change with every new assignment I add.

6.  All work is passed back to the students after I put it in my online grade book. Please help your child keep their notebook organized and neat.  Make sure they are taking out graded work on a daily/weekly basis and keeping it in a separate folder at home until the end of the semester in December and June. Please make sure you are looking over their graded work to review mistakes they've made so your child understands how to not make that mistake again.
