Honors English/Language Arts (Period 1) Assignments

College and Career report and presentation are due on May24th.  Please make sure you cover ALL points of the hand out.

Students will complete the rest of Chapter 17-19, I am Malala.  Make sure you answer in complete sentences.  We will go over the answers in class.

Complete your "I am Malala" questions from chapters 17-19.  Only do questions 1-5 tonight!!

Students will finish the questions from Chapters 15-16 in "I am Malala".  These questions were worked on in class.

Read "I am Malala" up through page 130- Answer comprehension questions Chapter 12-14 using evidence from the text.

Please make sure you have your "I am Malala" novels in class for tomorrow! 

Students will answer questions 1-13 using their I am Malala novels.  Chapters 8-10

Students will re-read the transcript from Malala Yousafzai's speech at the Youth Takeover of the United Nations. 

 

Analyze the quote from Malala and discuss its meaning.

 

 

Students read chapters 9-11 "I am Malala" in class today.  Students starting answering 1-6 Comprehension questions in class.  The remainder of the questions will be due on Monday, April 22nd.  as well as reading up to chapter 15 over the break.

IXL- 20 minutes of Language Arts

 

Please complete the vocabulary sheet for "I am Malala" up through Chapter 6.

Your interview " Outside Research" is due on Friday!!  (I am Malala)

 

Homework is to finish "Shakespeare and His Society" pages 256-257 using your Cornell Notes.  You will summarize each of the subtitles... Who is Willliam Shakespeare?, What did he write?.. etc. on your paper.

You MUST put your copy of "I am Malala" book checked out from Mrs. Bliss in a large plastic baggy!!

 

Students researched what "Social Activism" means by visiting a minimum of 3 websites using the Chromebooks. 

*List 5 examples of Social Activism from each of the 3 websites.

*Make sure you list the complete web address for each.

Attention Students!!  We will begin reading "I am Malala" Yong Readers Edition on Tuesday, April 2nd.  Please bring your personal copy on Tuesday!  Those students that do not own their copy will be able to check out a copy from me!  You are responsible for following the same school library rules.

Students must bring their SPRINGBOARD TEXTBOOK to class on Thursday!!

Students must bring their rough draft of the (First Person) story of survival to class on Wednesday!

Students will be creating a First Person story (account) of Pompeii and the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius.  Use your Readers Theater story and any other information to create this story.  Your rough draft is due in class on Tuesday. 

 

This story should be 3 paragraphs!!

 

Students will be completing their rough drafts at home.  Please make sure you bring this to class on Tuesday!!  Your rough drafts should be completed in pencil.  DO NOT COLOR THESE!!

IXL 20 minutes - Language Arts.  Please choose a skill or 2 from Language Arts and work on it (them) for 20 minutes.

*Students will read the last chapter in "Flipped" to prepare for the showing tomorrow!!

*Students should complete Section 4 Questions 1-10.

 

 

Read pages 145-158 Flipped- Complete the Section 3 Questions started in class.  You should have completed questions 1-12 last week!! There are a total of 15 questions.

Students started working on their "Story Lab" rough drafts, taking their bulleted information from pgs. 17-19 of their workbooks.  Most students were able to take a picture of their work so far.  Please work for 30mins on your story, turning those bullets into complete thoughts.  We will continue working in class tomorrow. 

Students will complete questions 7-11 for Section 3 of Flipped.  Questions 1-6 should already be completed.  This work was started in class.

Read pages 117-128- Looming.. answer questions 1-6 Chapter 3 from the handout.

Please make sure ALL vocabulary and Section 2 Questions are completed for HW.  We started both in class and you should not have much to complete before Wednesday.  The vocabulary quiz has been moved to Wednesday!!

All comprehension questions and vocabulary should be completed by now for Chapters 1-2.  We will be continuing with "Flipped" on Monday, February 4th.  Flipped novel is on-line!!

Flipped- Read pages 53-62 using your own novel or the on-line version.

Students will complete *Questions 1-3 Flipped discussion questions. Answer in complete sentences.

                                      *1-5 Flipped Vocabulary. Definitions MUST relate to the novel.

 

The on-line novel can be found on this website and Schoology under English/Language Arts

Students will read "Buddy Beware" from the "Flipped" novel located on this website or Schoology English/Language Arts section.  Students will continue filling in the "Point of View sheets that follows the chapter.  This is due on Tuesday!

Hello to my wonderful students.  Please continue to read your AR novel!  You may also do 30 minutes of IXL daily (Language Arts). 

IXL should be completed for 30 mins daily using the Language Arts sections. 

 

You should be reading your AR novel daily for 20 mins.

Students MUST bring their Springboard to class daily, along with their other textbooks and supplies!
