GOT PHOTOS? UPLOAD BY 5/31 FOR VIRTUAL CULMINATION

IF YOU WANT YOUR PHOTO ON THE VIRTUAL CULMINATION, YOU MUST UPLOAD TO YOUR ADVISORY CLASS BY 5/31 AT MIDNIGHT. IF YOU DON'T UPLOAD A PHOTO, YOU WILL NOT HAVE A PHOTO ON THE VIRTUAL CULMINATION. Let's make this the best virtual culmination!

Yes, this is different from before where we said you could use a Yearbook photo.

Dear Amazing Students and Parents of U.S. History Room 73,

We will be having a test on the African American History Packet on Monday, March 23rd through Schoology. Here is a Quizlet that I designed for you to practice.

To study for the test, review:
1) the African-American readings and questions;
2) the Crossword Puzzles;
3) the Study Guide;
4) Slavery and the Underground Railroad Brainpops;
5) the African-American History Quizlet.

I will be sending out more information about the test later in the week.

Thank you for all of your help, patience and flexibility during this time. If you have any comments, questions or suggestions, please feel free to contact me via email: [email protected] Please use your first and last name and your period in the Subject heading.
Sincerely,
Ms. Hagan

Schoology and www.nobelms.com class websites - Packets - Oh, my!

Dear Students and Parents,

Thank you for your assistance as we travel this new adventure of school closures together!

Students were given packets for work through April 2nd. They were given their attachments. There are two packets: 1) the African American History Packet Checklist as well as the 2) Chapter 8 Jefferson Era Checklist.

There are: 1) Attachments to the packets (African American History Readings and Questions, Crosswords and Study Guides); 2) Some online activities (BrainPops and the National Geographic Lewis and Clark Documentary and worksheets); as well as 3) Textbook and Inquiry Journal reading and homework.

We reviewed the checklists and attachments with all students who were in attendance on Thursday as well as again on Friday.

I am also attaching the checklists and assignments in the Schoology site. Please check there for documents to download in addition to this website. I cannot attach trademarked papers here on the nobelms.com website. So there are some documents there that do not appear here but will be on Schoology.

I believe that all students should have access to all of these assignments. However, if you are having any difficulty, please let me know as soon as possible so that we can figure it out together. The work is due upon students' return to class.

If you have any comments, questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me. Thank you! We will get through this together as we are the Nobel Family!!

Sincerely,
Ms. Hagan

Kleenex and Lysol/Generic Cleaning Wipes

Dear Amazing Parents,

It's flu season and we are trying to keep our classrooms clean and safe.

If you have a chance, could you please forward Kleenex and Cleaning Wipes for desks and chairs? They have them at the dollar store. Thank you for your donations!!

Thanks,
Ms. Hagan

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I am SO PROUD of our students and their participation in the Thursday and Friday, October 3rd and 4th, field trips to the Museum of Tolerance. Your children wrote reflective and insightful observations about their experiences. The other teachers said that our students were great. One of the docents, whose mother had died in the Holocaust, said that her group was one of the "top ten" of all the groups she had ever led.

Students stated that they now will "stand up for what they think," that "acts of kindness can help," that they will "help anyone being bullied," and that they are now "much more grateful and appreciative for their lives." (However, we need to work on spelling "grateful" and not "greatful.")

Thank you to our parent chaperones. They made this happen, from being on the bus, chaperoning the groups, and leading valuable discussions and debriefings before students wrote their reflections.  One parent wrote, "I was very surprised that every single student was quiet and respectful and genuinely in what was being presented."

We are grateful to all of you that donated. These trips would have cost over $4,000, but we received donations from parents, Board Member Scott Schmerelson (2 buses), Council John Lee (one bus), and an entrance fee grant from the Museum of Tolerance ($10.50 per student and chaperone - over $2,000).

To our amazing administrators, Mr. Horowitz, Ms. Turner, Ms. Bates, Ms. Oduwole, Ms. Romey and Ms. Yankie: Thank you for your organizational support to make this happen. This truly takes a village and we made it happen!!! Nobel's mission of learning by doing was evident in this field trip. We had experiential field trips, interacted with community members at the Museum who led our tours, spoke about our feelings and thoughts with parents after the Museum, and reflected on how we will use this to make the Nobel community even better moving forward.

I am proud to be part of the Nobel family.

Gratefully,

Jill Hagan
